Imagine poetic writes as stars. The RayStar tool converts words into stars
in the 3D space of virtual reality. This might have application beyond the
poetic. For exmple, text analysis by visual inspection.
Introduction
From the text area provided, every word will become a star's ray. A very
clever design allows reading around the star as well as along the rays ---
bi-directionally. For that purpose, palindromes,
conjoined palindromes, and the like
are useful. Consider words other than English including abbreviations such
as lol that means "laught out loud" in chat parlance and "fun" in Dutch. To
the extent your star reflects your poetics, you have visual
poetry (vispo) or concrete
poetry. An extensive historical gallery is at Rediscover.com.
Beyond poetics, since text is normalized into a visual (ignoring all other
formating), visual comparative text analysis is possible --- like comparing
textual finger prints at a glance. If you think of other applications,
contact PoeticWrites.org
so that your discovery can be shared with all. Or, you
can go directly to the PoeticWrites Poetry Wiki and enter your ideas directly!
Instructions
You will need a 3D browser such as the free one provided
by ParallelGraphics:
And, if you are using Internet Explorer 6 or above, you will need
to make both PoeticWrites.org and ParallelGraphics.com trusted sites
in order to view your creation.
After that is done, simply provide the information requested and press "create!"
to view your 3D wonder.
The longer the words, the large the star rays. The more words, the
greater the circumference. Use the "fit" button to see all
of your creation.
You can use the "turn" button to rotate and flip your creation.
Flipping provides a inverse animated view.
Currently, the simplest "a few people" share method is to copy
into an e-mail:
your input
the address of this web page: http://www.poeticwrites.org/tools/RayStarPoetics/rayStarPoetics.htm
and instructions such as: "To see text as a RayStar, go to the link,
paste the text into the text area that you will see and follow the intructions
on the site."
and then send the e-mail to whomever you want.
To share with the larger world, consider placing your poetic write in the
PoeticWrites Poetry Wiki under the topic RayStar Poetics Submissions. (If that category doesn't exist, be the one to create it!)
